ABOUT SHARPEN

SHARPEN is the online magazine of the New York Chapter of the American Society of Media Photographers.

At Sharpen, we aim to bring the photo community and those who hire us a little bit closer by seeking out the important stories in our industry and bringing them to the forefront, sharing the varying voices in our industry that make us stronger and culling the knowledge that a community creates.

The American Society of Media Photographers has been the leading trade organization since 1944 when photographers realized they were stronger together as one voice. It has been a sanctuary and voice for it’s who’s who membership roster: David Eisendrath, Margaret Bourke-White, Robert Capa, Louise Dahl-Wolfe, Jerry Cooke, Andre Kertesz, Peter Stackpole, Lisa Larsen, Andreas Feininger, Dimitri Kessel, Arthur (Weegee) Fellig, Eliot Elisofon, HArold Rhodenbaugh, Herbert Giles, Michael Elliot, Nelson Morris, Robert Disraeli, Fritz Henle, Fritz Goro, George Karger, Edward Weston, Edward Steichen, Henri Cartier-Bresson, Richard Avedon, Ellen Von Unwerth, and Albert Watson are just a few of the members over the years.
